“Cavuseri, Asron! Report in, soldier!”
Eek.
Asron feebly stepped forward to where his commissioned officer was awaiting his account of his mission. How do I say as little as possible, while telling everything, and minimize harm at the same time? Improvising was the answer.
“How did your mission go, corporal?” The officer, Major Sergeant Tenney, inquired.
“Fine, sir. Just dandy.”
“Care to elaborate?”
“Not really, sir.”
“Then I order you to,” Tenney replied, exasperated.
“There were a few kinks, sir. Though I stress that the kinks were minuscule.”
Tenney glared. It was more of the same from the soldier. “Give me a full account, please. Spare no detail.”
“The mission was going fine, sir, I tracked my target to Moenia, where I assume he was going to pick up his next spy report to bring back to his headquarters. I didn’t ask him what exactly he was up to, of course, I didn’t get the chance. I tried to keep my distance, naturally.”
“The point, please!”
“You said spare no detail, sir.” Asron knew what he said was disrespectful, but discretion was often lost during nervousness.
“You may spare me the commentary. In fact I order you to do so.”
He sure does order me around a lot. Expected of a newly promoted officer toying with his duties. “I was in the Moenia market square when I saw him head for a small villa near the lake. He went in, he came out, and headed for the docking bays. I followed him there and then out of the atmosphere.”
“And then...?”
“I was getting there. He jumped to hyperspace and I lost his coordinates. It took my droid a few minutes to relocate him and he was in the Dathomirian system. I hypered there as quickly as possible and then landed at one of the docking bays.” Asron paused for breath.
“Continue, soldier.”
“I swear, sir, the guy had connections to some of the highest ranking Nightsisters. He must have!”
“Scandalous! Why do you say that?”
“Because their rancors attacked me.”
The officer was at a loss for words. “Were you near a nightsister encampment?”
“No, I was at the starport landing my ship. I saw my mark using an adjacent docking bay and I fiddled into my pack for a thermal detonator, but by the time I readied it he had rented a speeder and took off. So I pursued as per my orders.”
“Get to the part where the rancors flogged you.”
“Getting there, sir. My speeder had some malfunctions and I was forced to break out in a light jog.”
“How did you expect to catch your mark while jogging through the Dathomirian forest?” Tenney stood aghast.
“It was hot and humid so I didn’t feel like running, sir. I figured he would have to sleep eventually and then I could gain on him.”
“Did you ever?”
“No, sir, I slept as well.”
Asron could tell that the Master Sergeant wanted to slap him.
“What happened next?”
“I was setting up camp when I spotted two rancors off in the far distance.”
“How far off?”
“About twenty feet.”
“And you didn’t see them there before?!”
“I was busy setting up camp, sir. It’s to be expected, is it not?”
“Not from a scout, it certainly isn’t Dare I ask you to continue?”
“I was about to throw the thermal detonator at the rancors when I realized the detonation would slightly deter me from my duties.”
“Oh it would only kill you.”
“Precisely, sir. So I put the thermal detonator back in my pack and tried to remain calm. I hoped the rancors wouldn’t see me.”
“Did they?”
“Yeah. Like I said, they were only twenty feet away. I didn’t have a fall-back plan, I’m afraid.”
“Then how did you manage to escape alive?”
“Some poor traveler on a speeder rushed past me at that instant, I clambered onto the back of his bike.”
“He allowed you to do that?”
“No sir, I had to shove him off after speeding about 100 meters.”
“So he’s stranded on Dathomir right now...”
“I sure hope not. It’s a scary place.”
Tenney sighed. “Who was the man?”
“I’m not sure, but he was wearing stormtrooper armor.”
“Corporal! Then he’s one of our men!”
“Was one of our men. I doubt he’s still alive.”
“So you killed one of our own men, and your mark is still alive?”
“Like I said, there were a few kinks, sir.”
“Corporal Cavuseri, your track record is not an esteemed one! Expect the High Council to make a swift decision about your fate.”
“All due respect Master Sergeant, I think it’s clear that my fate is that I’m still alive. I managed to escape.”
“That may not be your fate for long.”
((OOC: meant to be a part of Asron's background story... I have a few things worked out that happen before this part, as well as a few after, but here he is a member of the Imperial forces seeking out powerful Rebel targets... as you can see he's not too good at it.))
